Mcleod

Before reading this chapter I knew that copyrighted material was really nothing to mess with, but didn't realize how easy it is to violate someone's copyright. I feel these companies that own the copyrights to certain phrases or words in their songs are just trying to look for a way to pull in a little more income. The artists that steals their music really isn't concerned about violating a copyright because they have the money and it's basically a slap on the wrist because money isn't an issue with artists. One example from the reading that I'd like to point out is how the band"The Darkness" almost violated copyright laws from "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. The Darkness would have got in trouble had they digitally sampled that certain phrase without getting permission from the owner of the copyright. One other thing I would like to point out that I thought was really interesting was when Nike didn't allow Nike Perreti order a pair a xc shoes that said sweatshop on them....Why would Nike take offense to this?!?!?!
